An attic apartment has a special flair and becomes a real eye-catcher with the right furnishings. But when furnishing, you always come up against hurdles: The ceiling is too low, the closet is too high, and the bed doesn’t fit anywhere either – a room under a sloping roof often requires a rethink. However, if you follow these tips and tricks, you will also succeed in furnishing your attic bedroom.
Furnish Bedroom With Sloping Roof: The Right Choice of Colors
If you have a small bedroom under the roof, you should choose light colors to make the room look more open, lively, and bigger. Tip: It can already make a difference if you paint dark wooden beams in white, as they will then subtly fade into the background.
If you are reluctant to do without your dark wood beams, combine them with light flooring and delicate furniture – the bedroom would look cluttered with heavy, dark furniture. It’s also interesting to paint just one corner or a small, limited area in a bold color to create additional depth. Also, note that certain colors influence your sleeping behavior.
The Position of the Bed in the Bedroom With a Sloping Roof
In principle, the bed should not be placed in the alignment between the door and the window because the energy flows the fastest and does not allow you to rest. Besides, you would have to go around it for airing constantly. The sloping roof further limits your options.
So if you’re constantly bumping your head when you get up, it might be a good idea to position the sleeping area in the middle of the room. But if the high box spring bed just doesn’t fit in the room, you might want to get a new bed. Low models are better suited for the bedroom under the sloping roof.

Create Storage Space in the Attic Bedroom
Creative ideas are needed to create storage space under a sloping roof. As a rule, the usual cabinets and shelves do not fit in the attic or knee floor. Then you have, on the one hand, the option to commission custom-made furniture from a carpenter. This way, you can be sure that every corner and all the space under the sloping roof is used optimally. If you prefer to do it yourself, you can, for example, make a matching built-in wardrobe or attach clothes rails to the roof slopes.
Tip: Chic baskets and storage boxes are beautiful accessories that can be replaced at any time and provide additional space. Feel free to rearrange your furniture more often until you find the optimal solution.
The Right Lighting Under the Sloping Roof
There are also important points to consider when it comes to lighting. For example, a track system with ceiling lights suits modern, simple bedrooms. The advantage: the lighting does not take up space and blends unobtrusively into the room. If you want the lighting to be a beautiful eye-catcher, working with different light sources is best. Indirect lighting by the bed creates an atmospheric ambiance. In addition, table or wall lamps bring more brightness into the room. We advise against chandeliers and other hanging lamps – they take up much space and look too bulky in a small room.

Furniture and Decoration in the Bedroom
As with all other rooms in an attic apartment, the following applies: delicate and simple furniture is the key! Think carefully about which pieces of furniture you need in your bedroom. Everything else can be sorted out or placed elsewhere. Space-saving designer pieces are convenient and show off much better. Of course, you don’t have to forgo decorative objects and colors completely. However, hold back on colorful and lush materials. Rather create individual accents that can be replaced at any time. Leaving the floor area as free as possible is also recommended – this makes the room look visually larger.

More Ideas and Tips for Decorating the Attic Bedroom
Room Division
If you have a particularly large bedroom with a sloping roof available, a room division can make sense. Partitions, screens, but also an old wardrobe are suitable for this, provided that the ceiling height is sufficient. Behind it you can create a dressing room. Or how about the “en suite” living trend, i.e. integrating the bathroom into the bedroom? We also have some great tips on how to decorate your bathroom with a sloping roof.
Sloping Roof Decor
Even if the walls in an attic are not as high as in a usual room, you do not have to give up wall decor. You can also attach pictures to a sloping roof. If you like it a bit more playful, hang mobiles or dream catchers on the roof beams.
Heat Protection in Summer
In summer, the attic is known not to be the most popular room. If you still want to sleep well without air conditioning, you’ll have to use other methods to keep the heat out. Do away with all dark home accessories and banish thick carpets and blankets from the room – they additionally heat up the room. Also indispensable are roller blinds or pleated blinds on skylights, which provide sufficient shade for the room.
